A newly created opportunity for an ambitious and driven Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established, forward-thinking manufacturing organisation, with a clear development pathway to a Maintenance Manager role within 18–24 months. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to take the next step in their career, gaining hands-on experience in managing site infrastructure, maintenance strategy, and compliance within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

You will work closely with the Maintenance Manager, gradually taking ownership of maintenance operations, site projects, and contractor management, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant running of the site and facilities.

Key responsibilities of the Maintenance Engineer include:

  • Support the day-to-day management of site maintenance, utilities, and infrastructure
  • Plan and coordinate maintenance activities to maximise equipment uptime
  • Take increasing ownership of maintenance scheduling and prioritisation
  • Lead site projects (refurbishments, installations, upgrades) from planning through to delivery
  • Manage external contractors, ensuring compliance with safety standards (RAMS, permits, etc.)
  • Maintain accurate records using CMMS (Protean)
  • Ensure safe operation of mechanical, electrical, and site services (heating, compressed air, etc.)
  • Contribute to Health, Safety & Environmental compliance (COSHH, DSEAR, fire safety)
  • Provide technical support to production teams to minimise downtime
  • Deputise for the Maintenance Manager when required

Skills and experience required:

Essential:

  • Experience in a maintenance, facilities, or engineering role within manufacturing
  • Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge
  • Experience coordinating contractors and service providers
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety and safe systems of work
  • Experience using CMMS and maintaining maintenance records
  • Strong organisational, problem-solving, and communication skills to respond effectively to breakdowns and operational issues
  • Supervisory or team leadership experience

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar quality standards
  • Background in chemical, coatings, or process manufacturing
  • Electrical qualifications or multi-skilled engineering experience
  • Experience managing projects or budgets
  • FLT, IPAF, or similar certifications
