Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of repeat business, a long-established building contractor is looking to appoint a Construction Estimator to join their team in Essex. This is an excellent opportunity to become a key member of a respected, family‑run contractor where your contribution will be valued, your opinion listened to, and your work will have a direct impact on the success of the business.
Working closely alongside the company Directors, you will take ownership of tenders from initial enquiry through to submission, playing an important role in securing future projects and supporting the continued growth of the company. Projects typically range from £50k to £2m across the commercial, education, healthcare, residential, refurbishment, and mixed‑use sectors.
The Role – Construction Estimator
This is a hands‑on estimating position offering a high level of autonomy and responsibility. You will manage tenders from initial enquiry through to final submission, assessing project opportunities, obtaining subcontractor quotations, preparing accurate cost estimates, identifying potential risks, and helping secure commercially successful projects. The successful candidate will work closely with the Directors and wider team, contributing not only to tender submissions but also to project selection, pricing strategy, and the long‑term growth of the business.
The role would suit an experienced Estimator or a commercially minded construction professional looking to transition into a full‑time estimating position.
Requirements
- Experience within the building construction sector
- Previous estimating, tendering, pricing, commercial, or project delivery experience
- Ability to prepare accurate cost estimates and commercially sound tender submissions
- Good understanding of construction methods, procurement, subcontractor packages, and project delivery
- Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
- Confident communicator who enjoys working closely with Directors, clients, and colleagues
- Organised, proactive, and capable of managing workload independently
