Andy File Associates Limited is working as a Recruitment Agency on behalf of our client for this permanent position. The Technical Business Consultant (TBC) is a business‑focused, client‑facing role accountable for helping clients make better business decisions enabled by technology. The TBC acts as a trusted advisor to a defined client set, bringing strong commercial awareness, deep listening skills, and the ability to ask the right questions to uncover what the client truly needs—often beyond what they initially articulate.

This role is client‑centric, consultative, and autonomous, working directly with clients to understand their business objectives and translate those into clear, practical, and forward‑looking technology strategies. It works closely with clients to understand their organisation, goals, pressures, and constraints, then guides them on how technology can support those goals across the short, medium, and long term. While technology knowledge is required, the role is not deeply technical; its strength lies in commercial awareness, structured thinking, listening, questioning, and insight.

Location: Barlborough, North Derbyshire

Working hours: 37.5 working Monday to Friday with flexibility between 8am – 6pm

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Own the client’s technology‑enabled business strategy.
  • Understand each client’s business model, objectives, challenges, and future plans.
  • Help clients align technology choices to business outcomes such as growth, efficiency, risk reduction, resilience, and cost control.
  • Focus on why and what should be done, not how it is technically delivered.

C‑Level Engagement & Strategic Consultancy

  • Demonstrate the ability to confidently engage with C‑level stakeholders, translating technical concepts into clear business‑focused outcomes.
  • Possess sufficient technical and commercial understanding to independently identify opportunities, without reliance on Technical Support.
  • Proactively recognise risks and inefficiencies within a client’s environment and articulate how technology can be used to mitigate risk and improve process efficiency.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, able to hold strategic conversations that link technology decisions to business objectives, operational performance, and commercial value.

Apply technology awareness (not technical delivery)

  • Maintain a strong understanding of modern workplace, infrastructure, security, and cloud concepts.
  • Use technology awareness to guide conversations and shape recommendations.
  • Rely on technical teams for detailed design, validation, and implementation.

Deep client understanding and advocacy

  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders and decision‑makers.
  • Develop a deep understanding of how the client operates day‑to‑day and where friction exists.
  • Represent the client’s interests internally, ensuring recommendations and delivery reflect their business reality.

Autonomous ownership of client engagement

  • Manage a defined client portfolio with minimal supervision.
  • Proactively identify risks, misalignment, or opportunities before they become issues.
  • Take responsibility for the quality and usefulness of advice given to clients.

What Success Looks Like

  • Clients feel understood as a business, not just as an IT environment.
  • Technology discussions are clear, prioritised, and outcome‑focused.
  • Clients trust the TBC’s judgement and guidance.
  • Advice given is practical, realistic, and aligned to client maturity.
  • Strong collaboration with delivery teams, without stepping into technical ownership.

What our client offers

  • A dynamic and supportive work environment focused on innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Opportunities for professional development and certification.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • The chance to work on impactful projects that drive real change for clients and internal teams.
  • 25 days holiday, plus stats - Westfield Health.
