We are recruiting for an experienced Manufacturing Inspector / Quality Assurance Engineer to join a well‑established engineering and manufacturing environment. This hands‑on role focuses on ensuring materials, components, and documentation meet strict engineering specifications and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and verify material certification documents to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and recognised quality standards (including AS9100 and ISO 9001).
- Prepare and review Initial Sample Inspection Reports (ISIR) and First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR) in line with customer and industry requirements.
- Accurately record inspection results, including certificate conformity, observations, and any discrepancies identified.
- Interpret technical drawings, material specifications, and engineering documentation.
- Program and operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to complete dimensional inspections.
- Conduct manual inspections using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Identify and report non‑conformances, working collaboratively with internal teams to resolve quality concerns.
- Maintain detailed and traceable inspection records in line with quality management system requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying trends and recommending enhancements to documentation and processes.
- Participate in internal audits, quality reviews, and training activities to maintain high inspection standards.
Day-to-Day Duties
- Prioritise inspection activities based on production schedules and delivery requirements.
- Verify documentation against engineering drawings and specification requirements.
- Program and operate CMM equipment to measure critical dimensions.
- Carry out manual inspections where required to confirm tolerances and surface finishes.
- Prepare and maintain FAIR and ISIR documentation for new product introductions or customer submissions.
- Record inspection outcomes within the quality management system and highlight any deviations.
- Liaise with production and quality teams to investigate issues and support root‑cause analysis.
- Participate in quality meetings and contribute to improvement discussions.
- Ensure inspection equipment remains calibrated and the work area is maintained to high standards.
- Support audit preparation and provide documentation when required.
Required Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience programming and operating CMM equipment.
- Previous experience in a quality inspection role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of AS9100 and ISO 9001 standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, GD&T, and material specifications.
- Experience preparing FAIR and ISIR documentation.
- Skilled in the use of precision measurement equipment, including micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- High level of attention to detail with strong analytical and documentation skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Desirable
- Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering qualification (HNC/HND, NVQ, or equivalent).
- Experience supporting internal and external audits.
- Familiarity with customer‑specific standards within regulated engineering sectors.
- Knowledge of Lean or Six Sigma methodologies and continuous improvement practices.
