An established and growing Electrical contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Lead Electrical Estimator to join their team based in Abingdon. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior-level estimator looking to step into a leadership role, managing a small estimating team while taking ownership of a wide range of electrical tenders across commercial projects. The company delivers projects ranging from smaller works through to schemes valued at £3m, offering a varied and fast-paced environment with genuine long-term progression.
The Role
As Lead Electrical Estimator, you will play a key role in overseeing the tendering process from initial enquiry through to final submission. You’ll be responsible for producing accurate and commercially competitive estimates while supporting and guiding a small estimating team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and mentoring a small estimating team
- Preparing accurate electrical estimates across a variety of projects
- Reviewing tender documentation and prioritising workload effectively
- Producing detailed take-offs from drawings using estimating software
- Managing supplier and subcontractor enquiries to obtain the best commercial outcomes
- Assessing quotations for technical compliance and commercial value
- Attending site visits where required to assess project scope, buildability, and potential risks
- Supporting pre-contract and mid-tender meetings with clients
- Developing and maintaining cost databases to support future tenders
- Identifying value engineering opportunities to strengthen bid competitiveness
- Ensuring all tender documentation is organised and maintained to a high standard
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 5 years’ experience within electrical estimating
- Previous experience in a senior or lead estimating role
- Strong commercial awareness and tender analysis skills
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines effectively
- Experience working with supply chain and subcontractor pricing
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Strong attention to detail and organisational ability
- Experience using SEC Cypher estimating software would be advantageous
- A proactive team player who leads from the front and takes pride in delivering high-quality work
