Key Purpose of Role: To establish and manage a site workforce capable of constructing the company’s product in a safe and diligent manner, to the highest possible standard, on time, and within predetermined costs.
Responsible for: Assistant Site Manager, Labourers, Forklift Driver, Apprentices, Subcontractors, and utility providers.
Construction Department Overview: The construction department oversees the company’s developments, which may vary over time, including any of the company’s product range. The department ensures:
- Construction of a quality product, safely, within agreed budgets and timescales.
- Close collaboration with the Sales department to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Adherence to the company’s Health and Safety policies and legislation, promoting safe working practices.
Key Duties / Responsibilities - Site Manager:
- Comply with the company’s build policies and procedures.
- Supervise and coordinate staff, subcontractors, material suppliers, and utility providers to ensure an efficient build process, quality standards, and adherence to the build programme.
- Schedule works to meet production targets while maintaining high quality and controlling costs within budget.
- Use company information systems and databases effectively on a daily basis.
- Complete relevant documentation weekly and monthly, complying with Health, Safety, and Environment policies.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and instructions at all times.
- Liaise with the sales department and customers to ensure high customer care and satisfaction, including inspections and documentation.
- Coordinate with sales, technical, and commercial departments, maintaining up-to-date records of site activities, and reporting to the Contract Manager or Construction Director.
- Lead, motivate, communicate with, develop, and appraise staff to achieve high performance aligned with company objectives.
- Contribute ideas to improve company operations, protect its reputation, and implement change as needed.
Working Relationships: Effective working relationships are essential:
- Internal: Colleagues within the division, Health & Safety department
- External: Subcontractors, suppliers, utility providers, NHBC, Local Authority building control, HSE, and customers
Decision-Making Authority: Manage the construction process efficiently to ensure costs stay within budget. Assist in recruiting site staff as required.
Qualifications & Experience:
- HNC/HND in a relevant field
- Experience managing projects, teams, and contractors within the housebuilding industry
- Up-to-date knowledge of health & safety and building legislation
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Capable of delivering projects on time and to target
