Role Overview
4‑year fixed‑term contract travelling across the network. 40 hours per week. Must travel to the York Training Centre (accommodation available). Start date: 14 September 2026. This apprenticeship is Level 3 and aims to build technical knowledge, skills and confidence over time through training and support, with a progression towards an HNC in electrical engineering.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the electric systems that control gas flow through the network.
- Identify faults and carry out repairs using training and support from experienced engineers onsite and tutors at the Training Centre.
- Check equipment and keep systems running safely.
- Work through faults and understand how to solve them.
- Support installation, repair and maintenance work on site.
- Use specialist tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Wear required PPE and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Qualifications
- Ready to take first steps into a career in Gas Engineering.
- Age 18 or over by the start of the programme.
- Have GCSE Maths, English and a Science at grades 4 to 9, or equivalent.
- Have a full UK manual driving licence.
- Live within 45 minutes of the advertised location.
- Finish any other apprenticeships by the time you start.
