First Choice is currently recruiting an Environmental Health Officer to work within the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council at our Warrenpoint site. The successful candidate will be responsible for Food Safety, Tobacco Control, Health & Safety at Work, Consumer Protection, Public Health, Housing, Environmental Protection Planning, Health and Well‑Being and enforcement of byelaws. This is a part‑time, temporary post initially required for six months, with the possibility of extension. Working hours will be 18.5 hours per week released on a rota basis that includes a 4 am start and weekend work. Pay is £21.24 per hour with enhanced weekend and night rates.
Responsibilities
- Investigate and resolve complaints and process enquiries within the designated functional area, meeting timescales and performance indicators.
- Conduct sampling programmes and surveys, interpret and analyse results to ensure appropriate action is taken, including enforcement action as necessary.
- Assist the Head of Service and/or Senior Environmental Health Officer in preparing and submitting funding applications and monitoring returns for special projects.
- Produce written reports and business cases as required and attend council meetings and committee meetings.
- Undertake Environmental Health‑related project work directed by the Head of Service or Senior Environmental Health Officer using good project‑management principles.
- Assist in the departmental response to incidents and emergencies within normal office hours.
Qualifications
- Full UK driver’s licence and access to own transport.
- At least 12 months experience in a similar role.
- Fully qualified Environmental Health Officer.
- Certificate of Registration with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board.
