Overview
We are seeking an experienced Civil Field Engineer to support construction quality surveillance activities on a major infrastructure project. The successful candidate will play a key role in monitoring construction works, ensuring compliance with quality standards, contract requirements, and health and safety expectations. Working as part of the site construction team, you will carry out inspections and surveillance activities, identify potential quality issues, and work closely with contractors and project stakeholders to ensure works are delivered to the required standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and inspect civil construction works to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and contractual requirements.
  • Identify and report non‑conformances, supporting the preparation of non‑conformance reports where required.
  • Carry out planned, notified, and continuous surveillance activities across construction areas.
  • Review contractor performance against approved quality plans and inspection requirements.
  • Ensure quality inspection records are completed and approved before works are covered or progressed.
  • Support the identification and resolution of quality concerns before they impact the project.
  • Maintain clear communication with contractors, supervisors, and project teams, providing timely reporting on surveillance activities.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe working environment and ensure all activities comply with health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Ensure any design changes or decisions are managed through the appropriate approval process.
  • Contribute to project reporting and key performance indicators.
  • Keep up to date with current and upcoming site activities to support effective planning and coordination.

Requirements

Essential

  • HND, Degree, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, or relevant industry experience.
  • Experience working on large‑scale construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, quality requirements, and industry regulations.
  • Experience carrying out site inspections, quality surveillance, or quality assurance activities.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, inspection records, and quality documentation.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships while maintaining an independent and objective approach.
  • Experience producing accurate and concise site records and reports.

Desirable

  • Experience working on major civil engineering or heavy infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations and construction design approval processes.
  • Experience using digital inspection and reporting tools.
  • Additional skills would be advantageous.
