An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Operational Support Services for a Road Safety Officer, based at Headquarters but covering the whole South Wales Police force area. The Road Safety Officer forms part of a larger team which includes the Roads Policing Unit, the Casualty Reduction Team and the Safer Roads Team, whilst falling under the direct supervision and guidance of the Roads Policing Inspector. Working hours are typically 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday; flexibility is available if required.
The role of the Road Safety Officer is varied and will include duties such as:
- Promoting road safety through education with Operation Options
- Managing the acquisition of Lion Breath Test devices and calibration gas bottles, addressing servicing requirements, reporting defects, training supervisors in device calibration, and acting as a liaison for Operational Support Units
- Producing Operational Orders to support force and NPCC road safety operations, liaising with Roads Policing Senior Management, Roads Policing Officers, Neighbourhood Policing teams, PCSO's, Corporate Communications team, Local Authority, DVLA, other Welsh forces and the Fire & Rescue services covered by SWP
We are looking for someone who is as passionate about road safety as we are, with:
- Sound knowledge and understanding of the Road Traffic Act, the Road Traffic Offenders Act and associated legislation
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present road safety initiatives to internal and external agencies, stakeholders, and partners
- Experience of working independently with minimal supervision to achieve tasks, meet deadlines and produce detailed road safety related reports, with a good working knowledge of Microsoft products
