Stantec is working on many of the world's largest, complex and most exciting dams and hydro projects. Due to our ongoing success we are rapidly growing and seek a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team, working on the design and development of cutting-edge hydropower and pumped storage hydro solutions. It is a great opportunity to join a growing multi-disciplinary team involved in projects as varied and different as Coire Glas in Scotland, Koysha in Ethiopia, and Dinorwig in Wales. We have developed a strong reputation within the sector as a leading, progressive and forward-thinking consultancy, focused on delivering high quality outputs to ensure the client achieves their outcomes and business benefits.

You will join a growing team of mechanical and electrical engineers working closely with our multi-disciplinary teams. You will design, develop and support the testing of mechanical systems for hydropower and pumped storage hydro projects, including some or all of; turbines, pumps, generators and control systems. As a Principal, you will take line management responsibility for some members of the team, support business growth and strategy development and take ownership of project deliverables.

Your role on projects includes traditional advisory, Owner's Engineer, client facing concept design, contractor facing detailed design, remediation and troubleshooting, installation support and Lender's engineer / insurance / due diligence support. You will be responsible for working and liaising with project managers, technical leaders, design engineers, clients, supply chain partners, contractors, planners and other stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for the projects and community. You will help lead the team, acting as a mentor or guide to less experienced members. About You

  • Ideally Chartered or hold Incorporated status with the IMechE, or working towards it.
  • Essential experience in mechanical design of hydro and/or pumped storage hydro systems.
  • Experience in other sectors, particularly within Energy and Water, is advantageous.
  • Proficient in producing technical specifications, power and energy calculations, schedules, and reports.
  • Familiar with collaborative reviews and design solutions.
  • Strong skills in giving technical presentations to clients and design engineers.
  • Active participation in collaborative design discussions and technical workshops.
  • Comfortable working within a full 3D environment using appropriate tools to sketch and review models within a common data environment.
  • Willingness to travel (potentially UK and international travel).
