About the Role

As a member of the EMEA Solutions team at Energy Exemplar, this role is the bridge between our power trading customer base and the full capability of the PLEXOS platform. The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in fundamental energy market modelling with hands-on experience in trading desk workflows, and is equally comfortable scripting automated pipelines. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with trading organisations across EMEA, helping them unlock the full operational potential of PLEXOS and shaping how energy trading desks leverage fundamental modelling in their day-to-day decisions.

This role has three primary objectives:

  • Deliver tailored support and solutions for power trading customers and prospects: Work collaboratively with customers to ensure PLEXOS meets the needs of trading desks, from pre-trade analysis to post-trade optimisation.
  • Pre-Sales Technical Support: Partner with the EMEA sales team to demonstrate the value of PLEXOS to prospective trading organisations. Responsibilities include delivering technical demonstrations tailored to trading desk use cases, responding to detailed functional and technical queries during the sales process, supporting proof-of-concept engagements, and contributing to thought leadership content that positions Energy Exemplar as the platform of choice for fundamental-model-driven trading.
  • Post-Sales Customer Success: Serve as a trusted technical point of contact for existing trading customers. Support onboarding, resolve modelling and workflow challenges, and work collaboratively with customers to ensure their PLEXOS deployment continues to meet the evolving needs of their trading operations. Act as the voice of the trading customer back into the Solutions team, surfacing recurring needs and improvement opportunities.

Key Skills and Expertise

The ideal candidate will have a background similar to a trading analyst, with practical experience in:

  • Working with fundamental (stack) market models to forecast power prices, cross-border flows, and supply-demand dynamics across short-, medium-, and long-term horizons.
  • Familiarity with trading desk operations and the tempo of intraday and day-ahead markets.
  • Strong scripting skills (Python or similar) for automation and workflow integration.
  • Comfort working with APIs, CLI tools, and cloud-based computation environments.
  • Applying market models to support pre-trade decisions, including physical energy trading and proprietary trading.
  • Understanding how trading desks use modelling outputs to optimise market positions, assess risk, and identify arbitrage opportunities.
  • Using modelling to evaluate Value at Risk (VaR), inform hedging strategies, and optimise portfolio performance.
  • Supporting strategies for participation in secondary markets (Balancing Markets, Ancillary Services, Capacity Markets, etc.).
  • Analysing the impact of market disruptions, policy changes, and new technologies on trading strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Engagement and Model Delivery: Act as a trusted advisor to power trading customers, helping them build and refine models that directly support trading decisions. Lead requirements gathering sessions with trading teams to understand business goals and decision-making workflows. Design and implement innovative modelling approaches using PLEXOS, tailored to trading-specific needs such as price forecasting, congestion analysis, and dispatch optimisation. Provide guidance on industry best practices for market modelling in trading contexts. Analyse modelling outputs with customers to ensure they align with trader expectations and market observations, recommending adjustments to data or assumptions as needed. Develop, test, and calibrate models to deliver accurate and actionable insights for trading desks. Train trading teams to effectively use PLEXOS for decision support and strategy development.
  • Business Development and Thought Leadership: Partner with the sales team to engage with prospective trading customers, demonstrating how PLEXOS can address their specific challenges and enhance trading operations. Create Proof of Concept (PoC) studies that showcase the value of PLEXOS for pre-trade analysis, risk management, and portfolio optimisation. Deliver tailored presentations, technical demonstrations, and training sessions for trading-focused audiences. Collaborate with the product team to provide feedback on market needs and contribute to enhancements in PLEXOS for trading applications. Conduct market research and provide thought leadership on emerging trends in power trading, generating insights that can be shared with customers and at industry events. Develop original studies on power trading topics, starting with Energy Exemplar's simulation-ready datasets, and present findings in webinars and conferences.

This is a customer facing role, and therefore successful candidates will not only have strong modelling capabilities and domain expertise, but also have excellent communication skills, be outgoing, professional, driven and able to multi-task in a dynamic and often changing environment. Our customers use our products to help shape the future of the energy industry, and as such this role offers the opportunity to work with cutting edge technologies, collaborate with key players in energy markets, and solve the most fundamental problems facing the energy sector today.

The role can be based out of our London office, or remote working. The role also offers the opportunity for international travel across the Europe, Middle East and Africa regions.
