About the Position
As a Senior Energy Market Analyst (Nodal Modeling) at Energy Exemplar, you will play a critical role in supporting nodal modeling efforts across the North American ISO/RTO electricity markets. This position is instrumental in enhancing our modeling capabilities and supporting clients with complex power system implementations and analyses.
The ideal candidate will bring deep domain expertise in ISO market operations and nodal pricing structures, combined with a strong technical background in power systems modeling. You will be expected to apply your hands-on experience in economic dispatch, congestion analysis, locational marginal pricing (LMP), transmission constraint modeling, and regulatory frameworks to develop robust analytical solutions and insights that drive value for our clients and internal teams.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead nodal modeling efforts across multiple ISOs using PLEXOS, including transmission topology, security-constrained unit commitment (SCUC), and LMP formation.
- Build and validate production cost models, perform congestion analysis, screen for contingencies, and advise on resource adequacy, capacity expansion, and transmission planning.
- Support pre-sales and post-sales activities by developing and demonstrating ISO-specific modeling use cases, transmission deliverability insights using production cost modeling tools, and best practices.
- Work cross-functionally with Sales, Solutions Engineering, Product, and Customer Success teams to translate customer needs into tailored modeling solutions.
- Collaborate with Product Management to inform roadmap priorities for North American ISO markets and enhance software capabilities.
- Represent the organization in ISO stakeholder processes, technical conferences, or advisory committees as needed.
Candidate Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Energy Systems, Economics, Operations Research, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in power system modeling or ISO market analytics.
- 3+ years focusing on nodal modeling for one or more North American ISOs/RTOs, utility, consultancy, or energy trading firm.
- Prior experience building and managingnodal transmission models in PLEXOSor similar tools.
- Familiarity with renewable integration studies and FERC Order 2023 implications.
- Hands on experience with PLEXOS, Aurora, PROMOD, Dayzer, GridView or other production cost and capacity expansion tools, with a strong understanding of production cost modeling, power flow, and security-constrained unit commitment (SCUC).
- Strong understanding of ISO/RTO markets, planning processes, and stakeholder processes across one or more of the following: PJM, MISO, ERCOT, SPP, CAISO, IESO, AESO, NYISO, ISO-NE.
- Experience managing large datasets and applying statistical methods to energy markets.

The base pay range for this position is up to $120,000 annually. Pay will vary by work location and may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
