This opportunity is offered at Dowty, a GE Aerospace business based in Brockworth site.
Dowty, a GE Aerospace company, is based in Gloucestershire. It is a world-leading supplier of electronically controlled, composite propeller systems for a wide range of civil and military applications, including commercial airliners and military airlifters to multi-role seaplanes and marine hovercraft.
Key programs include the Lockheed Martin C-130J, the De-Haviland, Dash 8-400 and the Leonardo C-27J.
Operated by a highly skilled workforce, Dowty’s in-house production expertise for composite blades includes application of resin transfer moulding processes, which have been continuously evolved and perfected since 1976; and the use of braiding machines that rapidly and accurately apply the blades’ fibre outer layers.
Role Description
As part of this role, you’ll undertake and complete the Safety, Health and Environment Technician Apprenticeship at Level 3 with Highbridge.
Key responsibilities:
- Assist in the development, management, implementation and monitoring of the Safety, Health and Environmental Management System
- Learn to identify hazards and evaluate risk
- Support and assist in the implementation of EHS inspections and closing out of issues identified
- Assist with the investigation of accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences, near misses and other incidents as directed
- Undertake monitoring, analysis of and reporting of EHS KPI’s
- Prepare and maintain records relating to safety, health and environmental matters that comply with legal and workplace requirements and are accessible to those who are authorised to use them
- Assist with managing and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders such as local authorities
- Research EHS issues and best practices
- Review updates of health and safety regulations
- Recognise where decisions have a financial cost and assisting to develop a budget
- Recognise situations where the activity will benefit from contributions and expertise of other internal departments such as HR, Finance, IT or Occupational Health
Overview of the Scheme
This qualification is designed for the aspiring professional wishing to move into Health and Safety and Environmental Management. The successful apprentice will be eligible to apply for Technician Level membership of IOSH and as such these standard sits at the same level as the NEBOSH Certificate or NVQ Level 3.
- The duration of the training is 24 months and the whole programme is online delivery with a combination of online sessions and 1-2-1 sessions with a tutor
- End-Point Assessment (EPA): Knowledge test, Project Report and Presentation, Professional Discussion
Qualifications that you\’ll gain:
- Level 3 Safety, Health and Environment Technician apprenticeship standard
Qualifications/Requirements
- Interest in pursuing a career in Environment, Sustainability, Health and Safety
- 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent), including Maths and English, at grades C/4 or above. Evidence of certificates must be provided.
Please ensure you have achieved or are predicted these grades or above as these are the minimum requirements to join this apprenticeship. Failure to meet these grades could mean you are not eligible to join the programme.

Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance is required and must be maintained for this role. Please note that in the event that BPSS clearance cannot be obtained, you may not be eligible for the role and/or any offer of employment may be withdrawn on grounds of national security.
