Job Description Summary
At Dowty – a GE Aerospace company, we design, manufacture, repair, and overhaul a range of carbon fibre composite propeller systems for military and civil applications from our state-of-the-art headquarters facility in Brockworth, Gloucestershire, UK.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated CNC Machining Manufacturing Engineer to join our growing team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, contributing to the production of airworthy products while developing your skills in CNC machining, laser projection programming, and CMM programming. You will collaborate with a broad range of internal stakeholders across planning, operations, quality, and engineering to translate design intent into production solutions, with a focus on continuous improvement and safety.
Additionally, this role will actively support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, including the development of new processes, technologies, and tooling concepts. It requires fast adaptation and responsiveness to a dynamic development environment, ensuring innovative solutions are implemented effectively.
Job Description
Job Responsibilities

Collaborate with a diverse team to resolve manufacturing issues and improve production processes.

Ensure safety and compliance in all daily tasks.

Develop and implement production techniques from raw material to finished product, prioritizing Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC).

Create and optimize CNC cutting programs for 2/3 axis lathes and 3/5 axis mills using Fanuc, Heidenhain, CATIA V5, and hyperMILL.

Program and operate laser projection systems for manufacturing applications.

Develop and verify CMM programs using Modus or PolyWorks software for precision measurement.

Conduct online and offline prove-out and verification of new and existing CNC programs.

Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities by developing new processes, technologies, and tooling concepts.

Adapt quickly to a changing development environment and provide innovative solutions to manufacturing challenges.

Identify and implement solutions for manufacturing challenges through research, development, qualification, and production.

Apply structured Lean and problem-solving methodologies (Six Sigma, Red X, 8D, Lean) to present data-driven solutions.

Support Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) activities and represent the team in cross-functional forums.

Provide technical support to operations teams and assist with shopfloor queries.

Create and maintain workshop standard operating procedures and calculate process standard times.

Participate in daily shopfloor management escalation meetings and address process escapes.
Essential Qualifications, Experience, and Characteristics

A completed Manufacturing/Engineering Technician Apprenticeship (Level 3) or equivalent work gained experience in a manufacturing environment.

Ability to interpret 2D drawings, technical specifications, and address manufacturability challenges.

Solid understanding of metrology principles, including hand measurement, CMM contact measurement, and non-contact vision measurement.

Experience with online programming of CNC milling and turning machine tools.

Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

A proactive, problem solving approach with a desire to learn and grow.
Desirable Qualifications, Experience, and Characteristics

Experience with Fanuc and Heidenhain CNC controllers.

Offline programming experience using CATIA V5 or hyperMILL.

Experience programming and/or operating CMMs using Modus or PolyWorks software.

HNC in an Engineering discipline (Level 4).
