This is a great opportunity to join GE Aerospace as a Reliability, Maintainability and Testability (RM&T) Engineer. As a RM&T Engineer which operates from within our UK Safety team, you will be responsible for performing RM&T Analysis and Assessments for Electrical Power Distribution and Electronic Controller systems, as well as other sectors as we continue to branch out beyond our Aerospace roots. You will be joining an inclusive and diverse team of Safety and RM&T engineers with a mix of experience, who care about ensuring the products we design at GE Aerospace remain Safe, Reliable and Maintainable throughout their lifecycle.
We are committed to improving our project execution through taking a lean and innovative approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement and we are passionate about professional growth and developing our team culture, capability & capacity to meet our internal and external customer needs. As we are a combined team of System Safety and RM&T Engineers, there will be an opportunity to learn and develop across both closely related engineering disciplines. If this sounds like an environment in which you would thrive, then this could be the next role for you.
The Role & Essential Responsibilities
As an RM&T Engineer within the Chief Engineers Office, you would be responsible for providing support to programmes across the whole product lifecycle. This involves working closely with the product development to:
- Estimate how reliable a system will be in its intended use environment and document the results in the reliability assessment report, and work with designers to identify and manage reliability related design risks.
- Predict the ways in which a system will fail and analyse the effects of those failures on system operation and document the results of that analysis in the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis.
- Assess the built-in test functionality to understand the likelihood of a failure being detected by the system and isolated to the system.
- Determine if the maintainability of a system supports aircraft maintenance requirements.
- Create reliability test plans and procedures and document the results of testing performed.
The team is regularly involved in Bids and Proposals from concept generation and is building increasingly strong links with the product support, field support and in-service reliability teams which gives a rare opportunity to provide support to programmes from cradle to grave. You will be joining a dynamic team, supporting projects across both avionics and power distribution systems which enables every engineer in the team to gain broad experience of aircraft system platforms allowing the team to reach their potential. By joining GE Aviation at Cheltenham, ultimately, as part of an exciting and dedicated team, you will have the opportunity to move projects and roles to provide variety and grow your responsibility as your experience increases. As we are a combined Safety and RM&T team there will be the opportunity to cross-train in both areas, should you wish to take your career in that direction.
Qualifications / Requirements
Previous experience in an aviation, automotive or similar embedded systems development environment is helpful as it demonstrates understanding of working to rigorous industry mandated development standards; for example, ARP4754A and ARP4761. This shows a knowledge of working with complex system designs, for implementation in hardware and software. An appropriate degree or HND in Engineering, Mathematics, Electronics, Applied Physics or similar subject, or equivalent experience shows a logical mindset, alongside good problem solving and solution building skills. Experience of the systems design lifecycle will help you in activities such as capturing, understanding and documenting the customer’s system Reliability and Maintainability requirements. Good appreciation of the principles of Design for Reliability will aid in the generation of RM&T assessments such as Reliability Predictions, FMEAs and maintainability analyses. Strong understanding of what makes a reliable and usable product is essential and strong communication and influencing skills are advantageous in this role.
