We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Application Engineer to join our technology team within the energy sector. This role is critical to the deployment and maintenance of secure, scalable, and resilient cloud infrastructure using Microsoft Azure. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting digital transformation initiatives, optimizing operational efficiency, and management of Azure and on-premise systems.

The Application Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that cloud solutions meet the unique demands of Energy Assets, such as high availability, regulatory compliance, and integration with industrial systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implementation and Management: Implementation and management of secure and scalable environments using Azure and on-premise services such as Virtual Machines, Azure Apps/Functions, SQL Database, Cosmos, and Azure Storage. Support the development of hybrid cloud architectures that integrate on-premises systems with Azure.
  • Automation & DevOps: Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps to support rapid deployment of applications and services.
  • Security & Compliance: Apply security best practices across Azure and on-premise environments, including RBAC, managed identities, Azure Policy, and Defender for Cloud. Ensure compliance with ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials, and GDPR by implementing appropriate technical controls and audit mechanisms. Use Logic Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights to track system performance, detect anomalies, and generate alerts. Analyse resource usage and cost trends to optimise cloud spend and improve operational efficiency. Implement auto-scaling and load balancing strategies to ensure high availability and performance of mission-critical applications.
  • Support & Troubleshooting: Provide Tier 3 support for on-premises and Azure-related issues, including network connectivity, performance bottlenecks, and service outages for Energy Assets and external customer environments. Troubleshoot complex problems across distributed systems and collaborate with Microsoft and support partners when necessary. Maintain documentation of environments, configurations, and operational procedures. Provide training and support to IT colleagues and contribute to knowledge-sharing platforms.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 2 or more years' experience working in an IT operations role.
  • Proven experience managing Azure and/or on-premise infrastructure environments.
  • Strong understanding of multi-tiered information systems.
  • Strong understanding of cloud networking concepts including VNet peering, private endpoints, DNS, and routing.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools and practices, particularly Azure DevOps.
  • Knowledge of Azure security services and identity management.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to issue resolution.
