What it’s like to be a Communications Engineer
You’ll receive your own company van, and once fully trained, you’ll be self-sufficient – travelling from home to your planned jobs each day, with the radio or a podcast for company. While the vast majority of your work will be carried out alone, there will also be occasional jobs that require a two-person team. When you arrive at each job you’ll install, or fix issues with, communications devices on our automated gas or electricity meters. You’ll be given high levels of autonomy in your role and be responsible for your own:
- personal stock management;
- timekeeping;
- safety and the safety of those around you;
- customer service approach.
What it takes to become one of our Communications Engineers
Since full training will be provided, no experience is necessary (although experienced Communications Engineers are welcome). You’ll need a full UK driving license to get about in your own van, and you’ll need to be comfortable using a mobile phone since all logistics are coordinated via a company-provided mobile. The role requires no heavy lifting and is well suited to candidates with basic DIY skills or who enjoy fixing or building things. You should have good communication skills to interact with customers and liaise with colleagues across the business. You’ll need to undergo a basic DBS check and random drug and alcohol tests.
Working with us you will benefit from
- A competitive compensation package — salary starting at £26,814, on target earnings (OTE) up to £33,000, plus the opportunity to receive an annual performance-based bonus, with £3,000 London Weighting Allowance within M25 and surrounding area.
- Work-life balance — 30 days holiday, increasing each year to a maximum of 35 days.
- Critical injury scheme — safety at work is taken seriously with high levels of risk mitigation.
- Supportive safety culture — strong safety statistics and ongoing training.
- Down-to-earth, welcoming culture — a friendly, diverse team looking forward to new starts.
- Future career opportunities — opportunities to grow within a large organisation covering end-to-end, meter-to-main solutions.
