You've delivered transmission projects. Now what? Most Senior Electrical Project Manager roles involve stepping into an established team, inheriting established processes and delivering projects somebody else has already decided to take on. This isn't one of those roles.
Our client is an established transmission and substation contractor with a strong reputation for structural steelwork, earthing, mechanical installation and primary plant installation. As client demand continues to grow, the business is looking to strengthen its electrical capability with a key strategic hire. This is an opportunity to become the senior electrical voice within the organisation. You'll work directly with the leadership team, helping shape how they develop their electrical offering, supporting decisions around project opportunities, subcontractor strategy, National Grid requirements and future growth.
Initially, you'll be helping the business strengthen its expertise around electrical scopes such as MV and HV cabling, multi-coring, terminations, cable sealing and commissioning activities. As they continue to win and deliver larger electrical packages, you'll also take ownership of project delivery, leading electrical works from planning and mobilisation through to commissioning, handover and commercial close-out.
What you'll be doing:
- Providing senior electrical leadership across transmission substation projects from 33kV to 400kV
- Advising the board on electrical delivery strategy and future capability development
- Supporting the review of new project opportunities and technical risk
- Managing electrical subcontractors and specialist delivery partners
- Supporting commissioning activities and ensuring projects are delivered safely and compliantly
- Managing project programmes, budgets, commercial performance and client relationships
- Administering NEC contracts, including compensation events, programme obligations and risk management
- Helping the team to navigate National Grid procedures, standards and authorisation requirements
- Supporting tenders, pre-construction planning and project mobilisation
What you'll need:
- Proven experience delivering transmission substation projects between 33kV and 400kV
- Strong National Grid knowledge, including authorisations and procedures
- Strong experience delivering electrical scopes on transmission substations, including HV and MV cabling, multi-coring, terminations, secondary systems, protection and control interfaces, testing and commissioning.
- NEC contract experience and a strong understanding of commercial risk
- Experience managing specialist electrical subcontractors
- A practical delivery background rather than a purely design-focused career
- The ability to influence, challenge and advise senior stakeholders
Why this role is different:
This is not a replacement hire. This is a business investing ahead of its growth plans. You'll be joining a company of around 50 people where decisions are made quickly, your opinion carries weight and your contribution will be visible. The role offers genuine scope to grow as the electrical side of the business develops. If you're looking for another project to deliver, there are plenty of those available elsewhere. If you're looking for the chance to help shape the future direction of a growing transmission contractor while still remaining close to project delivery, we'd like to speak with you.
