Our client is a busy local engineering business with a strong client base across the UK and Ireland. They are now seeking an additional Contracts Manager with a background in the steel or construction sector to join their South Down based team. The successful Contracts Manager will ensure that all work is carried out to the specifications and to the customer’s satisfaction within time and financial constraints.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain a broad customer base both through repeat business and the network of contacts within the construction and development industry
- Carry out tender reviews
- Assist estimator with take offs if necessary and identify any site implications which may impact on productivity
- Give indicative production rates, plant cost and subcontract feedback to the estimator
- Assess programme implications at tender stage
- At contract award, attend pre-start meetings, agree programme, advise drawing office of phasing
- Organise health and safety submission, method statements, risk assessments, lifting plans and training certificates etc.
- Procure subcontracts and plant
- Carry out valuations for subcontract payments
- Prepare variation costs and record dayworks
- Interact with the clients' site team throughout the contract
- Direct site foreman accordingly
- Maintain a good recording system, e.g., foremen’s records, dayworks, etc.
- Ensure effective utilisation of all resources in order to minimise costs
- Attend final handover meetings
- Agree final account valuation subject to approval
Criteria:
- Previous relevant experience as a Contracts Manager ideally in the construction or steel sectors
- Ability to prioritise workload and operate with a sense of urgency
- Good IT skills
This role is primarily office based; however, some flexibility is necessary to travel to site as required. Salary is in the region of £50-55k depending on experience.
