Our client, an innovative and growing manufacturing business based in North Down, is seeking to appoint a Product Development Engineer to join their development team. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious engineer looking to gain exposure across the full product development lifecycle, from concept and design through to testing, validation and production. The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams, suppliers and customers to develop innovative engineering solutions and bring new products to market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct performance testing on new and existing products in accordance with established procedures.
  • Support and deliver research and development projects, both internally and in collaboration with external partners.
  • Develop and implement handover procedures for new products transitioning into production.
  • Create and maintain detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) for newly developed products.
  • Liaise with suppliers to ensure appropriate material selection and required performance characteristics are achieved.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to development, prototyping and testing activities.
  • Develop industry knowledge and expertise.
  • Provide technical support and engineering expertise across the wider business when required.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Present project findings and recommendations to local and global teams.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and undertake additional engineering tasks as required.

Criteria:

Essential

  • Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of one year's experience within product development, R&D, manufacturing engineering or a related field (placement experience will be considered).
  • Experience supporting projects from concept through to production.
  • Experience of 3D software such as Inventor or Solidworks.
  • Ability to translate engineering concepts into viable products.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Experience communicating with customers to identify issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Experience developing or updating standard operating procedures and technical documentation.

Desirable

  • Experience within plastics, polymers, extrusion or a related manufacturing environment.
