This new role will support our Renewables team with projects across onshore wind, solar, battery and other renewable technologies. This key role will be a fundamental part of our team – managing multiple renewables projects through development, planning, design input, site activity management, commissioning, and handover. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in project development and construction, preferably within the energy industry or other substantial infrastructural projects. We are looking for experienced construction managers who excel in communication and thrive on delivering successful projects. As this team is in a growth phase, this role presents an exciting opportunity to join at the early stages of project development and play a vital role in our contribution to the energy transition.
Responsibilities
- Provide client side leadership of construction phase Health, Safety and Environmental compliance, ensuring adherence to Irish HSA PSDP/PSCS or UK CDM regulations, planning conditions and consent requirements.
- Act as the client's on-site representative, overseeing daily construction delivery to ensure projects are completed safely, on programme, within budget and to required quality standards, and successfully handed over to the Operational business.
- Lead client oversight of construction risk management, including temporary works, lifting operations, traffic management, contractor performance and emergency preparedness.
- Proactively identify constructability, sequencing and access constraints, driving early resolution with contractors, designers and project teams.
- In conjunction with the employer-appointed Owners Engineer, carefully administer construction contracts on behalf of the client, managing variations, interim payments, extensions of time and final accounts, and ensuring consistent application of contract conditions.
- Support commercial negotiations and manage construction claims and disputes, providing input to risk and opportunity management.
- Oversee construction quality control and ensure compliance with employer's requirements and company construction standards.
- Manage construction phase stakeholder interfaces, acting as liaison with ESB Networks, EirGrid / DNOs, Local Authorities and landowners to coordinate approvals, site access, outages and grid connection.
- Ensure ongoing planning and environmental compliance throughout construction, in coordination with internal planning and environmental teams.
- Deliver regular progress, cost and risk reports, maintaining comprehensive site records and contributing to lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Input into Energia's Construction Standards, Lessons Learned and Continuous Improvement.
About You
Key Criteria – What You'll Need
- Third level qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field and a minimum of 8+ post graduate experience in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
- Significant experience in the development, design and delivery of large-scale construction or civil engineering projects.
- Proven experience in successfully delivering high-value engineering projects within the energy industry, including managing and coordinating construction projects with multiple resources.
- Experience and understanding of construction contracts including supporting the resolution of variations, claims and extensions of time risks.
- Strong commercial understanding of construction works in relation to budget control, variations and claims.
- Strong understanding of public road works, ROL requirements and Local Authority interfaces.
Desirable Criteria - These help decide between those who meet all the above key criteria
- Experience delivering developer-led renewable energy projects (Solar, Wind, BESS or grid infrastructure).
- Experience with EirGrid and ESB Networks civil specifications and standards.
- Experience overseeing agricultural land reinstatement, landowner agreements and wayleave compliance.
- Previous involvement in projects using EPC, Design & Build or FIDIC style contracts.
- Expertise in HV grid connections (110 and 220 kV) and Wind / Solar / Battery installations above 5 MWh.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or ArcGIS software tools.
