We are seeking an experienced Principal Fire Engineer to join a growing Fire Engineering team within a multidisciplinary consultancy delivering complex, high-profile projects across the UK. This is a senior, client-facing role ideal for a technically strong fire engineer who enjoys leading projects, influencing design, and mentoring others.
The Role
- You will provide technical leadership across a diverse range of sectors including healthcare, education, commercial, residential, life sciences, and large-scale regeneration projects.
- Working closely with architects, engineers, and clients, you will shape fire safety strategies from concept through to delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the delivery of performance-based and prescriptive fire strategies
- Providing expert input across all project stages
- Overseeing CFD fire and smoke modelling, evacuation modelling, and smoke control strategies
- Acting as technical lead on complex, multidisciplinary projects and bids
- Engaging directly with clients, design teams, and approval authorities
- Supporting business growth and mentoring junior engineers
About You
- Proven experience delivering fire strategies for complex buildings
- Strong knowledge of UK regulations and standards (ADB, BS 9991, BS 9999, NFPA, EN guidance)
- Proficient with tools such as FDS, PyroSim, Pathfinder, or similar
- Comfortable leading client discussions and technical workshops
- Background in a consultancy and multidisciplinary environment
Qualifications
- Degree in Fire Engineering or a related discipline
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership (IFE or equivalent)
