Job Description
Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineer – Newcastle
Hybrid working | Excellent career progression | National consultancy with local presence
Energi People are seeking an experienced Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer to join one of our global consultancy clients in Newcastle, to play a key role in delivering a wide range of projects across the UK. This is a fantastic opportunity to hit the ground running and, in the next few years, step into a leadership role as we grow our mechanical engineering capability in the region.
The Role
You’ll be working on a diverse project portfolio, including:
- Healthcare projects (e.g. hospital ward extensions, with knowledge of HTMs an advantage)
- Energy infrastructure (supporting industrial and infrastructure developments)
- Aviation (including major airport schemes)
- Council frameworks and industrial facilities
As part of our multidisciplinary MEP team, you will:
- Lead the design and delivery of mechanical engineering projects from concept to completion
- Undertake site-based work across the North East of England
- Support and mentor junior engineers, helping develop the next generation of talent
- Work collaboratively with CAD/Revit/BIM specialists (hands-on BIM/Revit skills a bonus)
- Contribute to the growth of our healthcare sector offering and wider business
About You
We are looking for someone who can bring:
- A proven track record in mechanical building services consultancy (not production/manufacturing engineering)
- Strong technical knowledge, ideally with exposure to healthcare or energy/infrastructure projects
- Experience in site-based work and client-facing roles
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of projects
- Based in, or willing to travel regularly to, the North East (Newcastle office)
- Familiarity with SCADA/industrial control systems is advantageous but not essential
Why Join apply?
- Career progression – with an associate close to retirement, this role offers a clear path to leading the mechanical group in Newcastle and gaining exposure to financial and business management
- Variety of work – from healthcare and infrastructure to aviation and local authority frameworks
- Hybrid working – typically 2+ days in the office, with Wednesdays as an MEP anchor day
- Be part of a nationally active consultancy with strong local presence – large enough to win major projects, small enough to avoid the bureaucracy of bigger firms
If you're ready to take the next step in your career and lead meaningful projects in the North East, we’d love to hear from you.
