Principal Designer/CDM Advisor
Location; Colchester
Salary up to £55,000 per annum
We are currently recruiting a Principal Designer/CDM Advisor to join our growing team based in Colchester. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting the CDM (Construction Design and Management) duties across a diverse range of projects. Regular travel will be required to our offices and project sites throughout East Anglia, London, Oxford, and Nottingham with regular check-ins at our Colchester office.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting both clients and project teams by providing expert advice on health and safety compliance and fulfilling CDM responsibilities across all service phases. They will coordinate health and safety measures throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring effective communication and documentation at every stage. This includes developing strategies for the efficient flow of H&S information, liaising with principal contractors and stakeholders to ensure that designs meet regulatory and practical safety standards, and advising clients on the feasibility of their project plans. The role also involves managing multiple projects for both internal and external clients, auditing, and reporting on CDM duties, and working collaboratively with the wider Practice H&S team to maintain consistent standards and performance across the organisation.

- Advise and assist with client and project demands.
- Guide and support in compliance with H&S regulations.
- Coordinate and implement H&S measures for the planning and preparation of all construction phases.
- Complete all administration paperwork and communicate this through the appropriate channels.
- Assist and develop strategies to maintain the flow of relevant information at all stages of the project lifecycle.
- Liaise with principal contractors and all stakeholders to ensure designs meet safety requirements.
- Advise clients in terms of project practicality regarding CDM regulation.
- Manage multiple internal and external client CDM portfolios.
Essential skills, experience, and attributes…
- Knowledge of legislation relevant to the construction industry, CDM and health and safety.
- Qualification in health and safety (NEBOSH construction, TechIOSH etc.).
- Membership with IMAPS.
- Previous PD/CDM experience.
- Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for travel to sites and offices.
