The Role
Seeking an experienced Engineering Manager (Design) to lead design coordination on major projects. Act as the technical lead, managing multiple design consultants and ensuring programme alignment. Oversee design inputs/outputs, ensuring compliance with contract requirements and quality standards. They will support the Project Manager with design reporting, governance, and stakeholder coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate design consultants and deliverables across the project lifecycle.
- Lead resolution of design queries (RFIs) and technical issues.
- Review designs for compliance, constructability, and contract alignment.
- Produce and maintain design programmes, reports, and deliverable schedules.
- Chair design reviews, interface meetings, and stakeholder workshops.
- Manage design change control and approval processes.
- Collaborate with client representatives and external stakeholders.
- Oversee document control, drawings issuance, and design communications.
- Support procurement and engagement of suppliers and subcontractors.
- Lead engagement with approval bodies (e.g. TAA, NR, LUL).
Key Requirements
- Strong experience as an Engineering Manager / Design Manager within construction or infrastructure.
- Proven background managing multi-disciplinary design teams and consultants.
- Experience delivering large, complex projects (energy, rail, or infrastructure preferred).
- Prior experience in a design consultancy or temporary works design environment.
- Strong knowledge of design assurance, approvals, and change management processes.
- Ability to chair technical meetings and engage senior stakeholders.
- Understanding of Principal Designer duties and CDM regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to drive programme, quality, and performance.
