We’re working with an amazing design and build contractor delivering technically complex, secure projects across defence, government, data centres, and specialist high-security environments. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Design Manager — a step-up opportunity for an intermediate engineer, design engineer, or senior design coordinator who already has experience on secure, defence, government, or data centre projects and is looking to transition into full design management.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Coordination & Management Support
- Support the delivery of the design process from briefing and concept through to technical design and construction
- Assist in coordinating architectural, structural, MEP, ICT, and security design disciplines
- Help ensure all designs meet client requirements, statutory compliance, and security standards
- Manage design documentation, drawing registers, and technical information flow
- Track design actions, design changes, and consultant deliverables
- Technical & Engineering Contribution
- Produce and review detailed AutoCAD drawings (essential)
- Assist with Revit / BIM coordination (training and development supported)
- Support preparation of technical specifications, scopes of work, and tender documentation
- Assist with RFIs and technical queries during construction
- Support site inspections, quality checks, and as-built documentation
- Stakeholder Exposure
- Attend and support design workshops, coordination meetings, and technical reviews
- Work alongside senior team members in meetings with clients, contractors, consultants, and security stakeholders
- Develop confidence communicating within secure and regulated environments
About You
- Experience working on secure, defence, government, or data centre projects
- Background as an intermediate engineer, design engineer, or senior design coordinator within construction or technical sectors
- Strong AutoCAD capability, including detailed technical drawings
- Understanding of multi-disciplinary design coordination
- Organised, proactive, and keen to progress into design management
- Professional approach and strong communication skills
- Eligible to obtain UK Government security clearance
- Exposure to Revit / BIM
- Experience supporting consultant coordination or technical reviews
- Engineering, architectural, or construction-related qualification
- Familiarity with security-driven compliance or regulated environments
