If you’re curious about how insurers decide which risks to take, and how they use data to spot new opportunities, improve performance and build lasting relationships with brokers, this could be the perfect way to spend your summer. Join KGM, part of DUAL, and gain first-hand experience of specialist motor underwriting during this 10-week internship. From classic and modified cars to agricultural vehicles, KGM operates in a varied and fast-moving market. You will work alongside experienced underwriters, analyse account performance, investigate new business opportunities and help support broker relationships. You will join a fast, friendly and flexible business that has grown significantly in recent years. The programme will help you build your analytical, commercial and communication skills while discovering the different career paths available within underwriting.
What you’ll be doing?
- Support underwriters in reviewing account performance, analysing data and identifying opportunities to grow and improve our portfolio.
- Attend broker meetings and learn how strong relationships are built, maintained and developed across the insurance market.
- Help assess new business opportunities, investigate trends and use data to support underwriting decisions.
- Assist with responding to technical queries from brokers and operational teams, while gaining insight into how underwriting teams balance risk, service and commercial performance.
Who are we looking for?
- In your penultimate year of university, ideally studying an analytical degree such as Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Engineering or Computer Science, although we welcome applications from all degree disciplines.
- Someone who enjoys working with data, solving problems and using evidence to make decisions.
- Confident communicating and building relationships with a wide range of people, both internally and externally.
- Detail-oriented, with the ability to review information carefully and accurately.
- Comfortable working with numbers and able to analyse information to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
- Resilient and adaptable, able to prioritise tasks and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Willing to learn, take ownership and contribute ideas as part of a collaborative team.

- Assessment centre: Our final stage is an in-person assessment centre at one of our offices. You'll take part in some fun group activities and meet our team in a relaxed setting. This day is all about getting to know you better and for you to see what it's like to be part of Howden and experience our culture. We'll cover all your travel costs for this day.
