We are seeking a committed and highly organised Attendance Officer to join our secondary school community. You will play a key role in promoting excellent attendance and punctuality, working closely with students, families, pastoral staff, and external agencies to ensure every learner has the best possible opportunity to succeed. This is a vital position in supporting safeguarding, student engagement and achievement across the school.
Responsibilities
- Monitor daily student attendance and punctuality using the school’s management information system.
- Follow up on unexplained absences promptly, including phone calls and written communication with parents/carers.
- Work closely with pastoral teams, Heads of Year, and safeguarding staff to identify and support students with poor attendance.
- Maintain accurate attendance records in line with statutory requirements.
- Produce attendance reports for senior leaders and external agencies when required.
- Support the implementation of attendance improvement plans.
- Liaise with external partners such as Education Welfare Services where appropriate.
- Promote a positive attendance culture across the school community.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in monitoring and recording attendance and punctuality using a MIS.
- Strong communication skills with students, families and external partners.
- Understanding of safeguarding processes and working within relevant statutory requirements.
- Ability to work with pastoral teams and leadership to support attendance improvement.
Benefits and Employment Details
- Salary: Actual Salary £22,653 – £23,755.
- Working Hours: 37 hours per week – Monday to Friday – 38 weeks plus 5 inset days (39 in total).
