What difference will you make?

This role helps Endometriosis South Coast (ESC) deliver the "Let’s Talk Periods" campaign effectively and maximize its impact in the community in several key ways

  • Ensures Smooth, Welcoming Event Delivery Having dedicated on‑ground support handles venue setup, pack‑down, and attendee greeting so that session facilitators can focus entirely on delivering the educational content and engaging the audience.
  • Creates a Safe, Comfortable Environment Menstrual health and conditions like Endometriosis and Adenomyosis can be sensitive topics.

Session volunteers help set a warm, approachable tone, making attendees—especially fathers, male carers, and young people—feel comfortable participating and asking questions.

  • Directly Supports Fundraising & Impact Measurement Volunteers assist with on‑the‑day fundraising collections (supporting both ESC and Hey Girls) and help gather crucial opening and closing evaluation feedback, ensuring ESC can measure the campaign's success and secure future funding.
  • Extends Community Reach By helping run 8 sessions across Portsmouth South, Portsmouth North, Havant, and Portchester, volunteers allow the charity to scale its outreach and break down period stigma across multiple South Coast communities without overloading core staff.

What are we looking for?

This role reports to the Project Manager and works alongside Jodie on session days.

It's a supportive, on‑ground role rather than a planning one — the Project Manager will make sure you have everything you need before each session.

  • As part of your onboarding, you will receive
  • A briefing from the Project Manager ahead of your first session, covering what to expect and your responsibilities on the day.
  • An overview of ESC's safeguarding expectations and, if relevant, cash/card handling process.
  • Introductions to Jodie, the Founder, and Project Manager.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Passion for ESC's mission and a genuine commitment to making a positive impact for people with endometriosis.
  • Comfortable talking with members of the public, including on sensitive topics like menstrual health.
  • Reliable and punctual, able to commit to attending sessions once confirmed.
  • Commitment to upholding ESC's values of equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Desirable

  • Previous experience volunteering at community events.
  • Lived experience of endometriosis or an interest in menstrual health awareness.
  • Own transport or ease of travel across Portsmouth South, Portsmouth North, Havant, and Portchester.

What will you be doing?

About The Campaign Let’s Talk Periods

Let’s Talk Periods is ESC's Big Give fundraising campaign, raising £3,000 to run community sessions that break down stigma around menstrual health — with a particular focus on engaging fathers and male carers — and help young people recognise the warning signs of conditions like Endometriosis and Adenomyosis.

Role Overview

The Session Volunteer supports Jodie (who delivers the sessions) and the Project Manager on the day of each Let's Talk Periods session, helping everything run smoothly for attendees — from setup and welcome through to helping capture feedback.

This is a hands‑on, practical role, ideal for someone who wants to be part of delivering a meaningful project without taking on planning or budget responsibility.

With 8 sessions across 4 areas, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Session Preparation
  • Attend a short briefing from the Project Manager ahead of each session.
  • Help set up the venue, including materials and any refreshments.
  • On-the-Day Support
  • Welcome attendees and help them feel comfortable, especially where sessions involve sensitive or unfamiliar topics.
  • Support Jodie in running icebreakers and interactive activities.
  • Assist with cash or card handling if briefed to do so, following ESC's cash-handling process.
  • Support the on‑the‑day fundraiser collection (proceeds are split 60% ESC / 40% Hey Girls) as briefed by the Project Manager.
  • Help capture the opening (baseline) and closing evaluation activities alongside the Project Manager.
  • Wrap-Up
  • Support pack‑down of the venue after each session.
  • Share any feedback or observations with the Project Manager to help improve future sessions.
