We are searching for a Project Engineer/Project Manager to join our current team and provide a point of contact with solid technical expertise to drive the delivery of our projects, ensuring distributors and customers continue to receive the best possible service.
The Role The Project Engineer / Project Manager is responsible for managing customer projects from order receipt through to installation and handover, ensuring delivery against agreed specifications, timescales, and budgets.
Unlike a traditional project management role, this position requires a strong engineering background and the ability to provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle.
Acting as the bridge between Sales, Design, Production, Purchasing, and the customer, the role will proactively drive projects forward, resolve technical challenges, support engineering decision-making, and reduce the day-to-day project burden on the Design Engineering team.
The successful candidate will combine hands-on engineering knowledge with strong project management skills, ensuring projects progress efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of technical and customer support.
Key Responsibilities Project Delivery
- Manage projects from purchase order through to installation.
- Ensure projects are delivered in line with customer specifications and agreed timelines.
- Monitor project progress and coordinate activities across multiple departments.
- Identify project risks, delays, and technical challenges, implementing corrective actions where necessary.
- Lead Project Kick-Off Meetings and regular project review meetings.
- Technical Engineering Support
- Act as the primary technical point of contact throughout project delivery.
- Interpret customer requirements and specifications, ensuring they are accurately communicated internally.
- Resolve technical queries arising during manufacture, assembly, testing, and installation.
- Liaise closely with Production and Purchasing teams to address technical issues and minimise project disruption.
- Escalate complex design matters appropriately while reducing unnecessary demand on the Design team.
- Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Maintain regular communication with customers, distributors, and internal stakeholders.
- Manage specification changes and ensure all amendments are documented, approved, and communicated effectively.
- Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and customer review meetings.
- Build strong working relationships that contribute to successful project outcomes.
- Team Leadership
- Line manage Project Coordinators, ensuring effective project administration and coordination.
- Support development, engagement, and performance within the team.

- Significant experience of both project management and of working in technical engineering roles in a manufacturing/automation environment previously
- An engineering qualification is preferred, however some candidates may be qualified through experience
- PRINCE2 certification would be an advantage
