Technical Author

JOB LOCATION: Stevenage

SECURITY CLEARANCE LEVEL – SC Start

DURATION: 12+ Months initial duration with a strong likelihood we will extend on a 6 or 12 month rolling requirement.

WORK PATTERN: Full Time / Mon-Fri / flexibility to work some overtime and weekends as the project requires. – Role uses Dynamic Working a blend of remote (at home) and

onsite (MBDA Stevenage). We expect site attendance to be flexible and when necessary 2-4 days per month estimation.

TRAVEL REQUIRED: Should mainly be UK based. Travel to site (Stevenage) will be required. Overseas travel at the time of writing is not planned.

PAY RATE: £40 – £45 Per Hour Umbrella Inside IR35

IMP NOTES:

A qualification in Electrical or Mechanical engineering demonstrated with few years of experience. HNC/HND. Degree Level is also acceptable but not a requirement.

Experience in end to end amendment/production of Technical Documentation to Operate and Maintain equipment.

Experience in a Maintenance or problem/fault finding and correction is a bonus but not essential.

S1000D Compliance & experience. Working in Data Module Format.

Use of STE.

Experience with Abortext Editor, Framemaker authoring software s or other XML/SGML editing software.

Effective communicator as role is dual remote and onsite working. The role also interacts with multiple engineering depts. ILS, LSA, Commercial etc.

Responsibilities:

• To write technical documentation in Standard Generalised Mark-up Language (SGML), Extensible Mark-up Language (XML) and traditional formats for the Company\’s products in accordance with individual contractual requirements

• To enable safe and effective operation and repair of the equipment.

• The role covers the whole product lifecycle through design, development and in-service support.

Role Requirements (skills, training and qualifications):

• Experienced in the production of technical documentation with a detailed knowledge of MoD publication standards ASD S1000D and AESP.

• Ideally qualified to HND/HNC or equivalent level in an engineering related subject or ex forces senior technician.

• Knowledge of SGML editing software (Arbortext Epic), Common Source Data Bases (CSDB for S1000D) and Desktop Publishing systems.

• Ability to communicate effectively with ILS Managers and Design Engineers.

• Ability to work independently, taking ownership for packages of work in terms of scheduling and status reporting in order to meet Company and Customer expectations.

• Demonstrate a writing ability for new, complex and original work.

• Able to support more than one project at a time.
