We’re looking for a Principal Product Owner to join our growing team in London. This is a senior product leadership role focused on shaping and delivering merchant acquiring capabilities across onboarding, servicing, point-of-sale, e-commerce, and merchant operations. You will contribute towards strategically important product domains spanning merchant onboarding and maintenance, customer state and operational tooling, payment acceptance journeys, and the supporting operational capabilities required to scale a modern acquiring business.
This role is suited to someone who thrives in complex, high-stakes environments and operates confidently at the intersection of business strategy, product delivery, and platform transformation. You will work across the full lifecycle – from discovery and proposition shaping through to roadmap definition, backlog leadership, delivery support, go-live, and continuous improvement – ensuring product decisions are grounded in user needs, commercial outcomes, regulatory considerations, and long-term platform strategy.
You will be responsible for translating complex merchant, operational, and platform requirements into clear product outcomes. You will define priorities, challenge assumptions constructively, and align stakeholders around phased delivery that balances near-term business value with longer-term strategic evolution, including multi-processor readiness, stronger in-house capabilities, and reduced dependency on legacy or vendor-constrained platforms.
What You’ll Be Doing
- You will bring strong product ownership expertise across merchant acquiring, point-of-sale and e-commerce acceptance, onboarding, servicing, and operational platforms.
- You will work closely with client stakeholders, engineers, architects, analysts, data teams, and operations teams to shape products that improve merchant experience, operational efficiency, control, and platform flexibility.
- Be a key contributor to the product vision, roadmap, and backlog for strategically important merchant acquiring capability areas, spanning onboarding, merchant servicing, payment acceptance, and operational workflows.
- Translate business objectives, merchant and operations pain points, regulatory considerations, and control requirements into well-structured epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, and release plans.
- Lead discovery and prioritisation with product, commercial, operations, finance, engineering, architecture, and data stakeholders to define MVP scope, phased releases, and target-state outcomes.
- Shape requirements across capabilities such as merchant onboarding and maintenance, terminal and outlet lifecycle management, point-of-sale and e-commerce acceptance journeys, customer state, transaction visibility, merchant portals, and operational case management.
- Support the evolution of products that reduce manual effort, simplify fragmented journeys, improve data quality and traceability, and create a clearer single source of truth across CRM, merchant management, auth and clearing, and processor-integrated platforms.
- Manage dependencies across CRM, onboarding journeys, pricing and product catalogue services, payment processors, merchant portals, finance platforms, partner systems, and data services.
- Support delivery teams throughout implementation by clarifying intent, sequencing priorities, making trade-off decisions, and validating that released functionality meets business needs and readiness expectations.
- Participate in governance, steering, and stakeholder forums, representing Endava with clarity and helping translate progress, risks, and trade-offs into clear business narratives.
- Support pre-sales and proposition shaping activities where needed, helping define credible, commercially grounded product direction for complex merchant acquiring and payment transformation initiatives.
You will be comfortable working with senior business stakeholders, product leaders, and merchant operations teams, while also engaging in detailed conversations with engineering, architecture, and data teams. Where appropriate, you will help connect short-term delivery decisions to longer-term strategic goals such as multi-processor enablement, point-of-sale and e-commerce convergence, stronger internal operational tooling, and the creation of more differentiated payment products.
Qualifications
We’re seeking someone with strong experience owning or shaping complex payment or platform products in regulated environments, ideally within merchant acquiring, payments, banking, or financial services.
- Have proven experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, Product Lead, or closely related role, with responsibility for roadmap, backlog, prioritisation, and stakeholder alignment.
- Understand the end-to-end merchant acquiring and payment lifecycle across both point-of-sale and e-commerce channels, including onboarding, servicing, pricing, terminals, digital acceptance, settlement, billing, disputes, and operational support.
- Be skilled in requirements definition and management, and able to turn ambiguous business challenges into clear, testable, and traceable product requirements.
- Have experience working across complex system landscapes that include APIs, event-driven services, data warehouses, CRM, portals, processor integrations, and finance or reporting platforms.
- Be confident operating in multi-stakeholder environments with formal governance, risk, compliance, or audit considerations.
- Bring strong communication, facilitation, and decision-making skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at different levels and drive alignment across competing priorities.
- Have experience in consulting, client-facing product delivery, or transformation programmes where stakeholder management and delivery discipline are equally important.
- Experience with merchant onboarding, terminal or outlet lifecycle management, customer state, payment switch or gateway products, and operations tooling would be highly advantageous.
- Knowledge of open banking, partner or revenue-share models, Pay by Bank journeys, and alternative payment methods would also be valuable.
You communicate clearly, think strategically, and approach complex problems with a product mindset, strong delivery discipline, and collaborative intent.
