Encyclis Rookery South Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) is located near Stewartby in Bedfordshire, just a few minutes off the M1 Motorway and only 20 minutes from Milton Keynes central. This facility has been operational since January 2022 and has the capacity to process 585,000 tonnes of residual waste annually, delivering sustainable electricity to meet the needs of around 112,000 homes.
As a Mechanical Maintenance Technician, you’ll keep our plant running safely and at peak performance - from PPM and fault finding to high-tempo breakdown response and major work during planned outages/shutdowns. Reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Team Leader, you’ll maintain and repair core mechanical assets (e.g. materials/ash handling, rotating equipment, pumps/valves and boiler auxiliaries), ensuring high reliability, maximum availability and full compliance with Encyclis procedures, legislation and the Environmental Permit. A strong focus on safe systems of work, including permit-to-work, isolations and risk assessment, is essential in our environment.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver planned preventative and reactive maintenance on mechanical plant and systems across the ERF.
- Diagnose faults, repair breakdowns and complete maintenance work safely, efficiently and within your competence.
- Work to safe systems of work and follow site procedures, quality standards, Senior Management and Local Management Instructions.
- Support the planning and execution of outages/shutdowns, helping to deliver safe, on-time return to service.
- Keep accurate maintenance records and contribute to the CMMS (job close-out, priorities, improving routines/documentation).
- Support compliance and share good practice.
- Contribute to reliability improvements and site performance, including defect reporting/RCA input, spares/workshop support and strong housekeeping standards, working closely with Operations to support KPIs.
Working pattern:
Monday to Friday (day shifts). Participate in a rotating call-out rota with other team members to support urgent plant issues. Overtime is paid when additional hours are required (e.g., call-outs, outages/shutdowns).
Education & Experience:
The preferred levels of education are a Higher National Diploma or National Vocational Qualification Level 4 or 3 in a technical or science subject. A recognised Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship is desirable. Relevant other qualifications with energy recovery or large process plant experience will be considered for the role. Ideally have at least 5 years hands-on experience in a medium or large industrial facility. Working knowledge of Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Industrial plant outage planning and execution is desirable. Experience in all aspects of mechanical maintenance and workshop activities.
