Where you will be working
Encyclis Rookery South Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) is located near Stewartby in Bedfordshire, just a few minutes off the M1 Motorway and only 20 minutes from Milton Keynes central.
This impressive three‑line facility has been operational since January 2022 and has the capacity to process 585,000 tonnes of residual waste annually, delivering sustainable electricity to meet the needs of around 112,000 homes.
Responsibilities
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Electrical, Control & Instrument (EC&I) Team Leader, the EC&I Technician will undertake all planned and unplanned maintenance, inspections and diagnostics on plant.
Ensuring all work is carried out safely, efficiently and in line with Encyclis procedures, whilst ensuring the facility is operationally compliant.
- Key Duties & Responsibilities of the role
- The EC&I Technician will be responsible for all planned, preventative and reactive maintenance for EC&I, HV/LV electrical assets and systems within the boundary of the ERF in accordance with procedures, risk assessments and OEM recommendations.
- Contribute towards the planning and execution of EC&I outage work scopes and maintenance.
- Manage and supervise specialist EC&I contractors for routine and non‑routine work and during peak maintenance periods such as outages.
Ensure the suitable procurement and management of contractors to the facility site rules and Health, Safety and Environment requirements.
- Ensure all tasks and projects are performed in accordance with work scopes and specification, whilst adhering with safe systems of work.
- Fully conversant with maintenance processes and techniques with the ability to plan, co‑coordinate and execute planned outages.
- Promote and support the delivery of the Company Safety Rules and Safe Systems of Work, and work in accordance with all ACOP, SMI and LMI to ensure we are setting people to work safely.
- Reporting any Health, Safety and Environmental unsafe conditions, accidents or incidents.
- Develop and implement short and long term maintenance strategies in line with industry best practices and technical procedures.
- Develop and manage the site Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) ensuring work is managed and prioritised to avoid overdue tasks.
- Responsibility for CEMS maintenance and calibrations to ensure the plant remains environmentally compliant in accordance with the relevant EA / EN Standards.
- The ability to interrogate and diagnose faults on Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Remote I/O (RIO) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
- Support the development and management of the EC&I spares inventory and maintenance workshop.
- Lead EC&I improvement processes, management of corrective actions, defect notifications and rectification, as well as carrying out effective Root Cause Analysis (RCA) into major defects.
- Review, develop and maintain accurate and up to date Method Statements and Risk Assessments for the EC&I Department.
- Collaborate with the operations team to deliver facility Key Performance Indicators.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- The preferred levels of education are a Higher National Diploma or National Vocational Qualification Level 4 or 3 in a technical or science subject, although relevant other qualifications with energy recovery or large process plant experience will be considered for the role.
- A recognised Electrical, Control or Instrument Engineering apprenticeship is desirable.
- Relevant other qualifications with energy recovery or large process plant experience will be considered for the role.
- Ideally have at least 5 years hands‑on experience in a medium to large industrial facility.
- Working knowledge of Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Working knowledge of instrument calibrations, testing and maintenance.
- Industrial plant outage planning and execution is desirable.
- High Voltage equipment experience is desirable.
- Maintenance experience of switchgear, transformers and generators is desirable.
- Working and maintenance knowledge of DCS and CEMs maintenance are desirable.
