Position Overview
The Technical Manager (Head of Video) brings a strong technical background in the audio‑visual industry with expertise in a specific discipline such as Audio, Video, Lighting, Rigging or Power Distribution. As the subject‑matter expert for their discipline, the Technical Manager manages all aspects of that discipline – from event pre‑planning and on‑site management to equipment maintenance and post‑show activities. They operate and troubleshoot high‑end equipment, work with major AV brands in large venue scenarios, interface with warehouse leads to design systems, and act as the project manager for large event systems. The role includes mentoring technicians, negotiating with supply chains, driving innovation, and maximising profitability on a project‑by‑project basis. The Technical Manager reports to the Director of Project Management or the General Manager, UAE, depending on assignment.
Key Job Responsibilities
Event Pre‑planning
- Partner with Senior Project Managers, Project Managers and end clients to design, pre‑plan and manage all aspects of the discipline.
- Complete technical drawings, production plans, labour needs, budgets, equipment selection, and interfaces with warehouse leads and sub‑rentals.
- Assist and support other departments by recommending technology, processes and methodologies.
On‑site Management / Operation
- Deliver world‑class service by managing the production plan, budget and ensuring that the discipline meets or exceeds client expectations.
- Set and test technical components, operate designated equipment, and provide leadership to the assigned crew, including internal and external team members.
- Abide by all health and safety requirements and recommend improvements to the HSE Manager.
Post‑show Management
- Manage post‑show tasks including final labour calculations, timesheets, expenses, sub‑rentals and equipment maintenance needs.
- Prepare reporting information and feedback for Senior Project Managers and Project Managers to document lessons for future events.
Customer Service
- Provide excellent service and strive to exceed expectations of internal and external customers.
- Meet with clients on site as necessary to ensure that their needs are met and the equipment setup is working properly.
People Development (where applicable)
- Promote a culture of high performance, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Manage performance, address employee concerns, maintain adequate staffing levels, and facilitate team development.
- Handle HR activities including selection, performance management, and learning.
- Coach and develop team members, including training on company standards and systems.
- Recommend training opportunities for team members.
Job Qualifications
- BA/BS degree or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in live large venue audio‑visual work.
- 5+ years of expertise in an AV discipline and advanced technical skill set.
- 2+ years of crew‑lead experience (direct reports not required).
- Strong customer service skills.
- Excellent organisational skills.

- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time.
