Personal Assistant – Companion
I am looking for a caring, friendly and reliable PA to provide companionship and community-based support to me, an older lady living with dementia in the St Boswells area. I live with my family, who are very supportive.
This is a lovely opportunity for someone who enjoys spending time with others and would like to make a positive difference to my wellbeing. The role will involve providing companionship, encouragement and emotional support, as well as supporting me to attend local groups and enjoy activities within my community.
Vacancy Information
Working pattern – 4 hours per week:
- Mondays, 12pm–2pm: Accompanying me to a local tea and chat group.
- Fridays, 12pm–2pm:
- Every second Friday, supporting me to attend a local lunch club.
- On alternate Fridays, encouraging and supporting me to access activities and outings within the local community.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities
- Accompany me to a local tea and chat group each Monday.
- Support and encourage attendance at a lunch club every second Friday.
- On alternate Fridays, encourage and support participation in community activities and outings.
- Provide friendly companionship and emotional support.
- Build a positive and trusting relationship.
- Encourage social interaction and help reduce feelings of isolation.
- Support my independence and confidence when accessing community activities.
- Encourage me to try new activities and make the most of opportunities within the local community.
Person Specification
- Friendly, patient and compassionate.
- Reliable and trustworthy.
- A good listener with a supportive and encouraging approach.
- Respectful of confidentiality and personal dignity.
- Able to build a positive and trusting relationship.
- Ideally a driver with Business Insurance, although I would consider a non-driver for the right person.
- Comfortable around dogs and must like dogs!
Skills & Experience
- Experience supporting someone living with dementia or older people is desirable but not essential.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to encourage participation in social and community activities.
- Full driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Ability to work independently.
Terms
- £14.00 per hour
- 4 hours per week
- 45p per mile mileage and expenses paid when out with the client
- 5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata
- 6-month probationary period
