A lady living in Jedburgh is looking for a kind and reliable Personal Assistant to join her experienced support team. She has autism and a learning disability and receives one-to-one 24-hour support, including sleepovers. You would work from a weekly rota alongside her existing team. The role focuses on providing encouragement and support to help her maintain a healthy lifestyle, take part in local community activities, and continue developing her independence and confidence. She enjoys puzzles, crafts, music, dancing, and playing pool, as well as attending a country dancing group with her mum, who plays an active part in her support.

A full driving licence is essential, as the client uses her own car to attend activities and appointments. Full training and shadowing will be provided before starting, including catheter care training from District Nurses.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Support the client to be as independent as possible in all daily activities, including personal care, meal planning and preparation, social activities, and household tasks.
  • Carry out specialised catheter care once fully trained by District Nurses.
  • Administer medication as prescribed.
  • Liaise with team members, family, and professionals to ensure consistent, high-quality care.
  • Encourage and support the client to maintain and develop life skills and independence.
  • Support the client to access community activities and pursue personal interests.
  • Respect the client’s values, preferences, and privacy at all times.
  • Act as an advocate where appropriate and deal with situations calmly and professionally.

Skills & Experience
  • Experience supporting individuals with autism and learning disabilities is desirable but not essential—training will be provided.
  • Confidence to carry out personal and practical care tasks after training.
Terms
  • Hours of Work: Monday: 2pm – 10:00pm, followed by a sleepover 10:00pm – 8:00am; Friday: 7:30am to 10pm followed by a sleepover until 8am.
  • Total Weekly Hours: 22.5 hours per week.
  • Pay Rate: £14.05 per hour. Sleep over rate £12.71 per hour.
  • Holiday Entitlement: 5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata.
  • Probationary Period: 3 months.
  • Post subject to satisfactory references and PVG check or update.
  • Statutory employment rights apply.
