We’re looking for a kind, reliable individual to support an older woman living with Alzheimer’s in her own home. This is a rewarding part‑time role offering meaningful, one‑to‑one support in a calm and respectful environment. Due to the personal care needs of the individual, this role is open to female applicants only. This is a genuine occupational requirement in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.
About the Role
You’ll provide practical and emotional support to help maintain comfort, dignity, and independence. Responsibilities include:
- Light housekeeping and simple preparation of meals and drinks
- Support with showering, and prompting or assisting with personal care as needed
- Gentle support with medication routines
- Friendly conversation and companionship
- Supporting daily routines that promote wellbeing
- Accompanying on short outings
About You
You value dignity, patience, and respectful care. Formal qualifications aren’t essential—what matters most is your attitude and approach. Ideally, you:
- Have experience supporting older adults (professionally or personally)
- Are calm, patient, and emotionally aware
- Can work independently and follow clear guidance
- Are reliable, practical, and discreet, with good communication skills
- Driver with Business Insurance (driving licence helpful but not essential)

Location: Private home in Galashiels
Pay: £15.05 per hour
Hours: 8 hours every two weeks (typically one full day, flexible by agreement)
Mileage: 30p per mile for outings
Leave: 5.6 weeks annual leave (pro rata)
Requirements: PVG membership and references
