Main Purpose
To lead and manage day-to-day broadcast engineering personnel, activities and prioritises across EMEA and APAC, ensuring technical excellence, operational reliability, and alignment with global standards. This role acts as the bridge between strategic direction and hands‑on execution, supporting the Director of Broadcast Engineering by driving regional priorities and enabling engineering teams to focus on delivery without unnecessary distractions. This role is to provide management and technical leadership to a team of broadcast engineers, ensuring alignment with business goals, team objectives, security standards, and operational excellence. The role is part of a multi-regional engineering team that adopts a ‘follow-the-sun’ project and support model to ensure coverage for Encompass’ regional operations.
Leadership & Management
- Manage and mentor regional broadcast engineering teams across EMEA and APAC, ensuring effective prioritisation of daily tasks and adaptability to local operational needs.
- Oversee delivery of engineering activities from solution implementation through build, testing, deployment, and handover to Operations and Support.
- Coordinate resource allocation, scheduling, and skills development within the regions, fostering technical depth and operational readiness.
- Implement workload tracking and reporting mechanisms to maintain visibility and alignment with global standards.
Design & Delivery
- Act as regional design authority for broadcast engineering projects, ensuring adherence to global design principles while addressing local requirements.
- Supervise installation, commissioning, documentation, and handover of new systems and technical changes within EMEA and APAC.
- Ensure projects meet timelines, budgets, and specifications, applying best practices and company standards.
- Support consistency and scalability of design approaches across regional deployments.
Collaboration & Knowledge Transfer
- Maintain strong collaboration with Operations, Support Engineering, PMO, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing within regional teams and contribute to global process alignment.
Standardisation & Compliance
- Enforce company standards, SOPs, and security requirements (including SOC 2) within regional operations.
- Drive adoption of standardised tools and processes across EMEA and APAC.
- Identify and implement local process improvements aligned with global objectives.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for Tier‑3 support within EMEA and APAC.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for regional technical issues, ensuring minimal service disruption.
Reporting & Governance
- Monitor regional team performance, workload, and skill development.
- Provide regular updates to the Director on regional progress, risks, and technical recommendations.
- Assist in managing regional budgets and resource planning.
Additional Requirements
- Occasional travel across EMEA and APAC.
- Ability to manage critical incidents and customer‑impacting issues within the regions.
- Strong judgement, communication, and adaptability under pressure.
Experience/Knowledge
- Proven experience in broadcast engineering leadership within a multi‑region environment (EMEA and APAC preferred).
- Strong technical knowledge of broadcast systems, signal flow, transmission standards, and IP‑based workflows.
- Familiarity with global broadcast compliance standards and operational best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and operational teams across diverse geographies.
- Experience in vendor management and contract negotiation for technical services and equipment.
- Understanding of emerging trends in broadcast technology and ability to assess their operational impact.
- Problem‑solving under pressure, proven capability in escalation management, and troubleshooting in high‑pressure live environments.
- Self‑motivated and adaptable, resourceful in maintaining and growing technical competency, with a clear understanding of broadcast design principles and emerging IT technologies.
