We are looking for a General Maintenance Fitter to join our Elton Glass team and play a key role in keeping our plant safe, reliable and running at its best. If you are a hands-on mechanical engineer who enjoys solving problems, getting stuck into breakdowns and improving equipment rather than simply maintaining it, this could be the role for you.
What you'll be doing:
- Diagnose, repair and prevent mechanical breakdowns.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance across a wide range of industrial equipment.
- Fabricate and repair pipework, chutes, steelwork and other plant equipment.
- Maintain equipment including motors, pumps, conveyors, elevators, crushers, drag chains and ventilation systems.
- Install and maintain heavy engineering plant using lifting equipment.
- Safely isolate electro-mechanical equipment before carrying out maintenance.
- Use your engineering knowledge and initiative to design, manufacture and install improvements.
- Support the team in reducing major mechanical breakdowns and improving plant reliability.
- Keep your work area safe, clean and organised, following our 6S and Clean as You Go principles.
- Work safely and professionally, following risk assessments, permits, method statements and safe operating procedures.
What we're looking for:
- A recognised time-served engineering apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds equivalent.
- A recognised welding qualification.
- At least 3 years' post-qualification experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and maintenance experience.
- Experience working with conveyors, bucket elevators, screw feeds and steelwork.
- Experience with lifting and rigging.
- Experience within a raw materials process environment, ideally involving sand or cullet.
- Experience working at height and in confined spaces.
- The ability to work independently, use your initiative and make sound engineering decisions.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across the site.
- FLT and MEWP licences would be an advantage.
- Flexibility to work planned overtime when required.
