The HR Manager will provide professional HR support across the whole business, ensuring their people practices are fair, legally compliant, and aligned with company values and business goals.
This role will play a key part in building positive employee relations, supporting and guiding managers, and contributing to the ongoing growth and success of the company and its teams.
Key responsibilities
- Lead on day to day HR management, providing expert advice and guidance to managers and employees.
- Oversee, manage and support managers in employee relations (ER) matters, including disciplinaries, grievances, investigations, short and long term absence management, performance management, appraisals.
- Support managers in driving employee engagement, performance, and accountability.
- Support managers with recruitment and selection in line with the business needs and the Company’s values.
- Overseeing the onboarding of new starters from offer of employment through to induction, developing systems and processes where required.
- Undertake right to work checks and manage the compliance of right to work, managing employee data and internal record keeping of employees that are on visas.
- Supporting and guiding managers on all family friendly policies and processes to ensure legal compliance.
- Supporting Line Managers with managing employee performance situations and appraisals.
- Working with the external HR Consultant to maintain and update the template Contracts of Employment, all the HR policies within the staff handbook, ensuring compliance with employment legislation and best practice.
- Supporting with complex Occupational Health referrals.
- Roll out a new HR platform and take their HR documentation and processes digital.
- Accountable for managing and maintaining all employee records are up to date and accurate on, Sage People and hard copy files.
- Support with development and training initiatives, identifying learning needs and facilitating opportunities for growth.
- Provide support to the senior leaders on different HR projects to include employee surveys, wellbeing at work initiatives, salary benchmarking, job descriptions and recruitment.
- Champion company values and foster a positive, inclusive workplace culture.
Experience required
- CIPD Level 5 qualified (or equivalent experience).
- Evidence of continuous professional development in HR.
- Demonstrable employee relations experience.
- Previous experience in FMCG or a manufacturing/production environment is highly desirable. Working within an environment of shift working.
- Proven track record of supporting managers and teams through HR challenges and change.
Skills & knowledge required
- Strong understanding of UK employment law and HR best practice.
- Strong understanding of Right to Work compliance in the UK.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels.
- Excellent written communication and report writing.
- Confident in handling sensitive and complex HR matters with discretion.
- Organised and proactive, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Excellent attention to detail.
