Role Overview
Are you passionate about Community youth work as well as physical activity and leading on programmes that make a difference to young people?
We\'re seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Youth Support Coordinator who has a passion for physical activity to join our experienced Active Communities Team. This team has a proven track record of delivering successful community interventions as well physical activity programmes across the Wandsworth borough, catering to diverse populations.
As our Youth Support Coordinator you will play a vital role in planning, monitoring and delivering our Furzedown Youth Café offer. Working closely with the Active Communities Programme lead you will engage students from a local secondary and 6th form to promote and delivery our student focused offer which addresses wider social needs. The Active Communities Team are a passionate team who use physical activity to address wider systemic issues within the borough. We put the person at the centre of everything we do, building innovative initiatives that tackle barriers to accessing physical activity. We are experts at creating lasting changes for individuals and communities.
Job Purpose
Furzedown Youth Cafe is a vibrant and inclusive space dedicated to providing a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for young people in the Furzedown community. The current programme is funded through external services such as The Wandsworth Robbery Fund which is a programme in London that supports projects aimed at reducing robbery and improving the safety of young people. It\'s funded by the Mayor\'s Office for Policing and Crime and administered by the Wandsworth Council.
We offer a range of activities, programmes, and support services designed to empower young people, promote their personal and social development, and help them reach their full potential. We are committed to fostering a sense of belonging and community, and we value diversity and inclusion. The current offer we have are two sessions running on a Wednesday afternoon for year 7 and 8 and 6th formers there after.
Main Duties/Responsibilities
General Duties
- Design, plan, and deliver a diverse range of engaging activities and programs that meet the needs and interests of young people.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with young people, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where they feel safe, respected, and empowered.
- Support and Guidance: Provide information, advice, and support to young people on a range of issues, including [mention specific areas like mental health, education, employment, etc., if applicable]. Signpost young people to specialist services when needed.
- Oversee the weekly running of the youth cafe, including opening, set up and and closing.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programmes and services, collecting data and feedback to inform future development.
- Work collaboratively with other staff, volunteers, and partners to ensure the smooth and effective delivery of services. Adhere to all safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of young people.
- Maintain accurate records, complete necessary administrative tasks, and contribute to reports.
