A leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractor is looking to appoint a Freelance Quantity Surveyor to support a growing portfolio of projects across Sussex. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a strong commercial background to join an established team delivering long-term works in a regulated environment. Whilst experience within the water sector would be advantageous, candidates from other infrastructure, utilities, highways, rail, energy or heavy civil engineering backgrounds will also be considered, providing they can demonstrate strong NEC contract knowledge.
The Role
- Managing the commercial and contractual aspects of projects from inception through to final account.
- Administration of NEC contracts, including compensation events and change management.
- Subcontract procurement and management.
- Cost reporting, forecasting and cash flow management.
- Valuations, applications for payment and agreement of final accounts.
- Working closely with operational teams to maximise commercial performance.
- Managing risk and identifying opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
- Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, infrastructure or utilities.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience of NEC contracts is essential.
- Ability to manage multiple commercial workstreams simultaneously.
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Degree qualified or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
- Full UK driving licence.
