Claims Handler – Insurance
Bristol | Hybrid – 2–3 days in the office
Up to £30,000
Permanent | 35 hours per week
Looking to build your career within insurance claims?
We’re partnering with a fast-growing specialist insurance business in Bristol that is continuing to expand its claims operation following new business wins and increased demand across its products.
We’ve already helped five people join this claims team, giving us a genuine understanding of the business, its culture and what makes someone successful there.
The feedback from those who have joined has been extremely positive, and the continued hiring reflects the company’s growth rather than replacement recruitment.
They’re now looking for another 2 x Claims Handler to join the team and manage claims from initial notification through to settlement and closure.
You’ll join a supportive and expanding operation where you’ll receive training across specialist products including rent protection, legal expenses, cyber and income protection.
What will you be doing?
Managing claims
- Receive and register new claims by phone, email and online systems
- Manage claims throughout the full lifecycle
- Collect and verify supporting documentation
- Review policy wording and assess whether claims are covered
- Make decisions on claim validity and settlement
- Clearly communicate decisions and next steps
- Maintain accurate records and complete audit trails
- Manage multiple cases while meeting agreed timescales
Supporting customers and business partners
- Act as a key point of contact throughout the claims process
- Provide clear guidance to customers and stakeholders
- Build strong relationships with business partners
- Ensure communication remains timely, professional and empathetic
- Handle difficult conversations with confidence and sensitivity
- Work with external partners, experts and law firms when required
Maintaining quality and compliance
- Identify and investigate potential fraud indicators
- Ensure claims are handled fairly and consistently
- Work in line with regulatory and company requirements
- Identify and manage complaints appropriately
- Contribute ideas that improve processes and customer outcomes
What are we looking for?
Previous claims experience would be advantageous, but it isn’t essential.
We’d also be interested in speaking with people from insurance, financial services (fs) or customer service backgrounds who have strong transferable skills and want to develop a career in claims.
You’ll ideally have:
- Previous experience within claims, insurance/FS or customer service
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- The confidence to make decisions and explain outcomes clearly
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong organisation and workload-management skills
- The ability to manage multiple cases and competing priorities
- A customer-focused and empathetic approach
- An interest in learning policy wording and insurance products
Why consider it?
This is an opportunity to join a modern specialist insurance business at an exciting stage of its growth.
We’ve successfully placed five people into the claims team already, so we can give you an honest and informed picture of the role, the working environment and the people you’ll be joining.
The claims operation is continuing to expand, creating genuine scope to build your knowledge and progress towards more technical, coaching or leadership responsibilities over time.
You’ll receive:
- Salary up to £30,000
- Permanent employment
- Hybrid working
- 35-hour working week, Monday to Friday
- Training across specialist insurance products
- Support from experienced technical and operational colleagues
- Long-term development opportunities within a growing business
