A residential groundworks contractor operating across Southwest Wiltshire and East Somerset is seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to oversee the delivery of multiple housing and groundworks schemes. This is a permanent role offering long‐term stability within a growing business, with responsibility for managing projects from award through to completion.
The Contracts Manager will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on programme, and within budget while maintaining strong relationships with clients, site teams and the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities- Responsible for the management and delivery of multiple residential groundworks projects across the region.
- Overseeing site teams including site managers, engineers and subcontractors to ensure works are carried out in line with programme, specifications and contractual requirements.
- Managing project planning, sequencing and resourcing to ensure efficient and timely delivery of works.
- Monitoring progress across all sites, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions where required.
- Ensuring all works are delivered to the highest standards of health, safety, environmental and quality compliance.
- Reviewing and approving risk assessments, method statements and construction methodologies.
- Working closely with commercial teams to manage budgets, variations, final accounts and overall financial performance of projects.
- Ensuring strong cost control and commercial awareness throughout the project lifecycle.
- Liaising with clients, developers, consultants and local authorities to maintain positive working relationships and resolve any technical or delivery issues.
- Chairing regular progress meetings, producing reports and providing clear updates to senior management on programme, costs and performance.
- Contributing to continuous improvement within the business by supporting best practices, operational efficiencies and team development.
- Proven experience working as a Contracts Manager within residential groundworks.
- Strong understanding of groundworks packages including roads, drainage, foundations and external works on housing developments.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with experience managing site teams and subcontractors.
- Solid knowledge of health and safety requirements within residential and civil engineering environments.
- Commercially aware with experience managing costs and programmes.
- Relevant construction or civil engineering qualification preferred.
- CSCS Card required.
- SMSTS or equivalent desirable.
