We are currently recruiting for multiple Setting Out Engineers on behalf of a leading groundworks and civil engineering subcontractor delivering works at Port Talbot Port. This is an excellent opportunity to join a major infrastructure and industrial development within one of the UK’s largest deep-water ports. The project involves significant groundworks, earthworks, drainage, reinforced concrete and external works packages, requiring experienced engineers to support the successful delivery of the programme.

Working closely with the Project Engineers, Site Managers and wider delivery team, you will be responsible for the accurate setting out and surveying of works, ensuring all activities are completed safely, efficiently and in line with project specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carrying out setting out for groundworks and civil engineering works.
  • Setting out foundations, drainage, roads, hardstanding areas, reinforced concrete structures and external works.
  • Establishing and maintaining site control points and survey grids.
  • Checking line, level and dimensional accuracy throughout the construction process.
  • Producing and maintaining accurate site records and as-built surveys.
  • Interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Liaising with site management and subcontractors to ensure works are delivered to programme.
  • Identifying and resolving setting out and technical issues on site.
  • Monitoring quality standards and ensuring compliance with project requirements.
  • Supporting the delivery team in maintaining health, safety and environmental standards.
About You
  • Previous experience as a Setting Out Engineer within groundworks, civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of earthworks, drainage, foundations, reinforced concrete and external works.
  • Experience working for a groundworks or civil engineering subcontractor.
  • Proficient in the use of Leica, Trimble or Topcon surveying equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfortable working within a busy industrial construction environment.
  • CSCS card as a minimum.
  • Full UK driving licence preferred.
  • HNC, HND or Degree qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience on major infrastructure, industrial, marine or port projects.
  • Knowledge of machine control systems and GPS surveying technology.
