An established and growing groundworks and civil engineering subcontractor is looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team based in Middlesex. The business delivers a broad range of groundworks, reinforced concrete, infrastructure, drainage, roads and external works packages across residential, commercial and mixed-use developments throughout London and the Southeast.
Working closely with the Commercial Manager and operational teams, you will be responsible for the commercial management of multiple projects from procurement through to final account, ensuring commercial performance is maximised while maintaining strong client and supply chain relationships. This opportunity would suit an ambitious Quantity Surveyor seeking to develop their career within a fast-paced and successful subcontracting environment.
Key Responsibilities- Managing the commercial aspects of multiple groundworks and civil engineering projects.
- Preparing and submitting applications for payment, valuations and final accounts.
- Monitoring project costs, budgets, forecasts and cash flow.
- Producing accurate monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
- Identifying, pricing and negotiating variations and change events.
- Procuring and managing subcontractors, suppliers and specialist packages.
- Reviewing subcontractor applications and agreeing final accounts.
- Supporting project teams with commercial and contractual guidance.
- Identifying commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintaining accurate records of site progress, variations and commercial correspondence.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, contractors and supply chain partners.
- Ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures.
- Degree, HNC or HND qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline.
- Previous experience working for a groundworks, civil engineering, infrastructure or RC frame contractor.
- Strong understanding of groundworks packages including foundations, drainage, roads and sewers, earthworks and external works.
- Good knowledge of JCT and NEC forms of contract.
- Commercially astute with strong negotiation and analytical skills.
- Able to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced project environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and standard commercial management systems.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Experience working on large residential infrastructure or mixed-use developments.
- Experience within a subcontractor environment.
- Working towards or holding a professional qualification such as RICS or CIOB.
