An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Planner to join a leading specialist contractor delivering some of the UK’s most challenging demolition, enabling works, structural alteration and construction projects. Due to a substantial pipeline of secured work across London and the South East, our client is seeking a commercially aware planner who can do far more than simply produce programmes. They require an individual capable of planning projects from first principles, working closely with operational teams to drive delivery, and providing expert planning support when projects encounter change, disruption or delay. This role offers genuine long‑term continuity, working within a business that continually secures major projects and treats freelance staff as an integral part of the team.
The Role
Working closely with project, commercial and operational teams, you will take ownership of project planning from tender stage through to completion, ensuring programmes remain robust, achievable and commercially defensible. Key responsibilities will include:
- Developing detailed project programmes from first principles
- Producing baseline programmes and monitoring project progress
- Supporting site teams with short‑term and weekly look‑ahead planning
- Identifying programme risks, constraints and mitigation strategies
- Monitoring progress against key milestones and project objectives
- Providing planning support across multiple live projects
- Preparing extension of time assessments and delay analysis
- Supporting the preparation and defence of contractual claims
- Producing forensic planning reports where required
- Working closely with commercial teams regarding compensation events, delays and project change
Requirements
- Proven experience working as a Senior Planner within construction, civil engineering, demolition or major infrastructure projects
- Strong experience producing programmes from first principles rather than simply updating existing schedules
- Advanced proficiency using Asta Powerproject
- Working knowledge of Primavera P6 is highly desirable
- Strong understanding of programme management, delay analysis and forensic planning techniques
- Experience supporting contractual claims and extensions of time
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence operational and commercial teams
