An experienced Contracts Manager from an engineering background is required to oversee the delivery of groundworks and reinforced concrete packages on major infrastructure projects across the London region. This is a permanent, senior role suited to an individual who has progressed from an engineering pathway and possesses strong technical, commercial and leadership capability.

The role requires a technically strong Contracts Manager who understands construction methodology, sequencing and design coordination, and who can manage complex civil engineering works from pre‑construction through to completion. The Contracts Manager will be responsible for the successful delivery of multiple projects, ensuring works are completed safely, on programme and within commercial targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full responsibility for the management and delivery of groundworks and reinforced concrete packages across multiple infrastructure projects, applying strong engineering knowledge to drive buildability, sequencing and efficient delivery.
  • Oversee and support site teams including Project Managers, Site Managers, Engineers and subcontractors, ensuring works are delivered in line with engineering requirements, programme, specifications and contractual obligations.
  • Lead project planning, technical sequencing and construction methodology, ensuring engineering solutions are practical, safe and cost‑effective, particularly in constrained and complex environments.
  • Ensure the highest standards of health, safety, environmental and quality compliance at all times. Review and approve engineering‑led risk assessments, method statements, temporary works designs and construction methodologies.
  • Work closely with commercial teams to manage budgets, variations, valuations and final accounts, bringing strong technical input to support commercial decision‑making and change management.
  • Liaise with clients, engineers, designers and key stakeholders, providing technical leadership and resolving engineering, design or programme challenges as they arise.
  • Chair regular progress and technical meetings, producing clear and accurate reports for senior management covering programme, cost, risk and overall project performance.
  • Support the development of engineering teams, systems and processes to drive continuous improvement, consistency and operational excellence across the business.

Required Experience

  • Proven experience working as a Contracts Manager on infrastructure projects involving groundworks and reinforced concrete.
  • A strong engineering background, with previous experience as a Site Engineer, Senior Engineer, Project Engineer or technically led Project Manager prior to moving into contracts management.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of RC structures, foundations, heavy civils, enabling works and temporary works.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously across the London region.
  • Strong leadership, communication and decision‑making skills with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent understanding of health and safety management on major infrastructure schemes.
  • Commercially astute with experience managing substantial project budgets, programmes and change.

Qualifications

  • Relevant civil engineering or construction qualification preferred.
  • CSCS Card required.
  • SMSTS required.
  • Temporary Works experience or qualification advantageous.
